We finished off a lift refurbishment for Preston Trust Homes in Shropshire, a prestigious independent living site we work closely with. Previously known as Preston Hospital, the Trust was founded by the 1st Earl Of Bradford’s daughter some time ago. She had £6000 to house twelve widows and girls. over the years, her family member’s investments into the building were used to expand and improve the business.
Preston Trust is a purpose-built Almshouse which provides a high standard of living, which was in need of a lift refurbishment. With this being said, we understand how important a reliable lift is to them.
Normally, with lift refurbishments, LEIA (The Lift and Escalator Association) recommends a lift modernisation after 15 years. This lift was over 25 years old and needed an upgrade desperately. The client ensured they invested in the work before the lift parts became obsolete, which would have caused them a headache.
What We Did On Site
Control Panel Replaced
We replaced the control panel to a more modern and reliable lift control system, featuring LIMAX levelling and excellent diagnostics for our engineers. This work ensures the lift will be efficient. The components we replace are all open protocol and sourced in the UK. This means significantly less time waiting for parts and ensures easy replacement of parts in the future. Our old school engineers have decades of experience between them, especially in installing DMG control systems.
Hydraulic Systems Upgraded
During the project, the entire hydraulic system was upgraded to maximise safety and efficiency. Ensuring the ride was as smooth as butter was key here. For this reason, we used a BLAINE EV100 Valve Block, as it offers a reliable, safe and smooth ride with excellent levelling, which was perfect for this job. We have used the Blaine hydraulic equipment via our partners Hydrax on many projects.
Door Operation
We upgraded the lift door operator to an L&L system, which is specially designed for the doors on site. We also replaced the door safety edges, did a car door overhaul, car lighting, shaft lighting, car top controls, auto-dialler with alarm, GSM and sim. This gives our client the complete package for their lift on site.
