A large shopping centre located in Coventry had a problematic lift, so we did a full lift upgrade for them.
Picture this: imagine your lift gives you nonstop problems; you have tried everything- regular servicing, repairs- but its still problematic. Perhaps the reason for this is because your lift is old and past its glory days.
Now imagine that, for a fraction of the price of a new lift, we can transform your old lift to a practically a new lift but minus the prolonged work that is undertaken. Luckily, you don’t have to imagine this, as a lift upgrade does exactly that.
The lift in question is a 2000kg goods lift, installed some time ago to ensure the retailer can practically and safely move their shop’s inventory. However, their previous lift company put the lift out of action, the client needed a practical solution so their lift could operate again, which is where we came in.
What Is A Goods Lift?
A goods lift (sometimes referred to as a material lift or freight elevator) is a lift that is specially designed for carrying goods. These goods could range from a stops stock, construction materials or heavy or bulky machinery.
They are specifically designed for heavy loads, whilst something like a passenger lift is not. Goods lifts are great for retail stores/shopping centres, warehouses, factories and building sites.
They can range from 100kg all the way up to 5000kg. They are great because it means you don’t have to carry goods manually, which reduces workplace injuries and makes for an efficient lifting solution.
What We Did For The Coventry Shopping Centre
We have dealt with some of the biggest retailers in the UK, River Island being one of our key clients. With this being said, we were confident the lift upgrade we could help the shopping centre in Coventry out.
A lift upgrade was the only solution on the table that wasn’t a full-on lift replacement. However, as we value practicality, a lift upgrade was the obvious solution and the client was happy to invest.
As part of our work on site, we installed a brand-new DMG control system from Shorts, complete with Biofial Hydraulics and a Blain EV100 valve block. The old parts were replaced with brand-new ones and all issues with the lift were resolved. All this work ensured the lift is safe, efficient and compliant with all relevant regulations.
In addition to this, this work was done swiftly but with great attention to detail. We left no stone unturned during the lift upgrade for the Coventry shopping centre. Speedy delivery of parts and quality workmanship made for a happy client.
What Is A Lift Upgrade?
A lift upgrade (commonly referred to as a lift modernisation or refurbishment) is essentially a huge lift repair. As part of a lift upgrade, all old or outdated lift parts are replaced or upgraded with brand-new ones. This means it can serve as a more practical solution to an old lift than a full replacement, saving lots of time, money and minimising disruption.
What Are The Benefits Of A Lift Upgrade?
- Cost-effective and eco-friendly
- No additional building or electrical work required
- All around more practical than installing a new lift
- Ensures your lift is safe and compliant
- Massively reduces the change of breakdowns and extends your lifts lifespan
When And Why Do I Need My Lift Upgrading?
If your lift is over 15 years old and you constantly find your having issues, then a lift upgrade is highly recommended. This is backed by industry experts, health and safety and lift companies alike.
With an old lift it can be best to act fast, as the longer you leave it, the more problematic it becomes. As your lift ages, it can mean increased breakdowns or parts becoming obsolete.
When a part becomes obsolete, it means it is no longer manufactured or supported. This can lead to increased maintenance or repair costs and difficulty acquiring parts.
As well as this, as your life gets older, it may fall out of line with regulations, which can cause a legal headache.
